Resolution test: a controlled physical comparison

Use it to compare quality modes, paper types, printers, driver settings, or output intended for diagrams, labels, small text, and fine artwork.

01 / INSPECT

What to inspect on paper

  • Alternating black and white line pairs stay separate.
  • Radial spokes remain distinct near the center for as long as possible.
  • Small text retains readable letter shapes and open spaces.
  • Black-on-white and white-on-black details resolve similarly.
02 / HEALTHY OUTPUT

What a clean result looks like

  • Edges are crisp without excessive feathering or toner scatter.
  • Curves remain smooth rather than stair-stepped.
  • Repeated patterns do not show moiré or directional blur.
03 / LIMITS

What the result does not prove

  • Browser CSS units do not certify printer DPI.
  • The sheet compares usable output under controlled settings rather than measuring laboratory resolution.
  • Scaling other than 100% invalidates physical line-width comparisons.

I/O Checkup prepares the controlled pattern and opens the browser print dialog. A webpage cannot reliably read your printer model, queue, driver faults, ink or toner level, maintenance state, or mechanical condition. Diagnose those systems with the printer manufacturer’s utility after the physical sheet shows a repeatable symptom.
